Our Story

"Menswear is one story up, to the left of the escalator."
- John Lewis

James

There are two things James has been historically known for (other than having a great fiancée) and they are his love of rules and routines and his distrust of any food that’s not plain bread and butter. But they say love changes you, and he now drinks coffee, eats hamburgers and even sometimes does chores on a Saturday! He still won’t eat two hot meals in one day but Emma’s working on it.

Emma

You may think that a man who loves routine as much as James would struggle to live with a woman as disorganised as Emma. And you would be right! But she makes up for her lack of doing the dishes with her steady stream of jokes, unwavering patience and overall sunny disposition, as long as you’re talking to her before 10pm.

How We Met

James and Emma met at the Chase High School in Malvern. After trying various strategies to spend more time with Emma (joining both the drama groups she went to, casting her in a short film, signing up for a school trip to Belgium), James finally asked her out in November 2011 and they have been together ever since.
In the 12 (and a bit) years we’ve been together we’ve faced many challenges, such as going to different universities, doing a PhD during a pandemic, and being friends with Chris Vickers. But these have been far outweighed by the myriad of fun times we’ve had over the years such as our yearly holidays with our friends from Malvern, performing in improv shows together and hosting our annual February party.

The Proposal

James proposed to Emma in April 2023 while on a suprise holiday in Malta. Amazingly, Emma said yes!
